After every mission, fighter pilots perform a sacred ritual. The Debrief.
We get together at a specific time and place and remove our rank and name tags. We discuss what went right or wrong, explore possible safety violations, and most importantly, whether or not we accomplished our mission objectives.
No stone is left unturned, and we always leave each debrief more prepared and confident than before. It’s all about coaching, open and honest communication and a focus on constant improvement.
Debriefing can be a huge asset in your personal and professional growth, but only if you call time out, gather your wingmen, humble yourself, and ask for feedback.
